Identity on behalf of youth
In Ungdom og Fritid’s (Youth Work Norway) new educational programme for youth workers, the focus is on youth participation – the youths are in charge, with the youth workers as facilitators. When developing a name for the educational programme, the idea was to emphasise this concept. Ungdomsledelse – in English, Youth Management – captures this duality, communicating the concept of learning how to manage the youth by letting them manage themselves.
Choosing a documentary approach, various youth clubs around the country were visited to get an insight into how young people use and shape their meeting places. In the educational material documentary photographs were placed in the context of thematically relevant content. The image material was also used in other internal and external communication.
“An unconventional book in this category, which in many ways succeeds in being as unpolished as it is. Nice and honest use of the photo concept that directly documents the youth environments, which in turn makes this book very authentic.”
