The book as an object

Årets vakreste Bøker (The Most Beautiful Norwegian Books) is an annual competition honouring the visual and physical aspects of books. All Tomorrow’s – Bergqvist’s former studio – was responsible for the event’s visual identity for three consecutive years.

In 2015 a new, radical category was introduced – the most beautiful e-book. To highlight the differences between digital and print, All Tomorrow’s focused on the book as an object, exploring similarities and differences between the two formats. The digital campaign featured Photoshop effects. For the catalogue, nine different print techniques were used on the cover, including light-sensitive ink and stamps – all 2400 catalogues were stamped by hand.

The awarded books were measured by format, volume, weight and density, and photographed with extreme shadows to emphasise the physical aspects of the object. Altogether 47635,5 cm³ plus 289 MB of beautiful books were presented.
